Piecing in progress! I’m making this as a wall-hanging for over a fireplace. I have a friend in mind who seems to really like bright oranges and reds and “modern art.” It’s mostly an experiment in color and trying something a little more “bold” than I usually go for, and taking a step back to my piecing-roots. There’s a good chance it won’t work for him or his home, but it’ll be a learning experience, and I can show it at quilt shows or something, I guess, because the colors alone are pretty cool, even if as a composition it’s a bit “too much” for home decoration. Stay tuned for more progress as I go!

This project was something I undertook for the Middlesex County Volunteers Fifes & Drums Christmas Concerts. Reversible, one side had the MCV broken heart logo embossed in blue velvet, and the other had the broken heart quilted into brocade. Twelve were made total. See my Photo Album for pictures.

I made these blocks with the intention of making a patriotic “Americana” lap quilt. I gave it to a friend as a housewarming gift, and she decided it would make a good wall-hanging on a very large blank wall in the red, white & blue stenciled dining room of her colonial home.

My fingers still hurt when I look at the pictures of the finished quilting! But, I’m probably the most proud of this quilt. You could almost turn it over and use it as a white-work quilt if the pattern on the top doesn’t do it for you. Celtic knotwork, knotwork birds, ivy, thistles, etc. Lots of good stuff quilted into this otherwise simple pattern.
